This is a working overview of preclinical research, written for readers who want more than a one-paragraph summary but less than a textbook.

Dihexa is not approved for human use in the United States or the European Union. It is commonly sold as a research chemical, a category that may not require the same regulatory review as medicines. Buyers should note that product labels may lack independent verification of identity or purity. The legal status can vary by country, and importation may be restricted. Reliable information about sourcing and quality is often scarce. Scientific publications typically use synthesized material from laboratories rather than commercial consumer products.
Dihexa is a synthetic peptide studied in laboratory research. It is often described as an angiotensin IV analog or a hepatocyte growth factor mimetic. The compound emerged from investigations into angiotensin IV and its effects on neural pathways. It is not an approved medication, and controlled human trials are lacking. In literature and online forums, it is discussed mainly as a research chemical. Its chemical name appears as N-hexanoic-Tyr-Ile-(6-aminohexanoic amide) in some sources.
Development of dihexa has been linked to academic research on synaptogenesis, the formation of new synapses. Preclinical studies in rodents have examined its effects on learning and memory tasks. These studies are often cited in discussions about cognitive enhancement, but they do not establish safety or efficacy in humans. The compound's patent and commercial history is limited, and it is not widely available through pharmaceutical channels. Most information comes from animal models and in vitro experiments. Researchers continue to explore its basic biology rather than clinical applications.
Purity and identity are usually assessed with reverse-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC) and mass spectrometry. RP-HPLC separates components by hydrophobicity and can estimate peptide purity. Mass spectrometry confirms molecular mass and helps detect truncations or modifications. Some laboratories also use amino acid analysis or nuclear magnetic resonance for structural verification. A certificate of analysis from a supplier may list these results, but independent verification is often recommended for critical work.
Regulatory status varies by country, and dihexa is not widely approved as a medicine. In many jurisdictions it is treated as a research chemical, which limits its legal sale, possession, and human use. Products marketed online may lack verified purity or identity, and labels can be inaccurate. Researchers typically source material from suppliers that provide analytical documentation and follow institutional safety rules. Open questions remain about long-term stability, metabolite formation, and human pharmacokinetics.
Dihexa is typically supplied as a lyophilized powder for laboratory research. Lyophilization removes water and improves stability during transport and storage. The solid is commonly stored at -20 °C or lower, desiccated, and protected from light. Repeated freeze-thaw cycles and exposure to moisture can degrade peptides, so aliquoting and sealed containers are standard practice in most laboratory settings. These handling measures apply to research-grade material and do not imply clinical suitability.

| Storage | -20 °C, desiccated, protected from light | Reduce freeze-thaw cycles to maintain stability. |
Dihexa is commonly handled as a lyophilized powder in laboratory settings. Storage at -20 °C in a desiccated, light-protected container is typical for peptides. Repeated freeze-thaw cycles can degrade the material, so aliquoting is often recommended. Aqueous solutions may be less stable than organic stocks and should be prepared fresh when possible. Personnel should follow institutional safety procedures and avoid uncontrolled exposure. Because human effects are not well characterized, handling precautions are prudent.
The proposed mechanism of dihexa centers on activation of the hepatocyte growth factor receptor, also called c-Met. Some studies suggest it acts as a mimetic of hepatocyte growth factor, promoting signaling pathways involved in synapse formation. Other work has explored interactions with angiotensin IV pathways, but the exact binding targets remain uncertain. Laboratory findings come mainly from cell cultures and animal models. Whether these mechanisms operate similarly in humans is an open question. Researchers have not established a single, universally accepted mechanism of action.
The full name often given is N-hexanoic-Tyr-Ile-(6)-aminohexanoic amide. This name indicates a chain containing tyrosine, isoleucine, and a six-carbon amino acid derivative. Databases list a CAS Registry Number and a molecular formula for the compound. The peptide is small compared with proteins, and its structure allows it to be studied in cell cultures and animal models. Exact identity depends on the supplier's synthesis and purification process. Minor impurities can remain after synthesis.
Chemically, dihexa belongs to a broader group of angiotensin IV analogs. Researchers have modified the natural peptide to alter stability, binding, or distribution. Such changes can affect how the molecule behaves in experiments. The parent peptide angiotensin IV is involved in various physiological processes, but the modified analog is not identical to it. Public summaries sometimes blur the distinction between the natural fragment and the synthetic research compound. This distinction matters when interpreting study results.
Dihexa is a synthetic peptidomimetic derived from angiotensin IV, a naturally occurring peptide fragment. It was created as a research compound to explore central nervous system signaling rather than as an approved therapeutic. Early work described it as a small, orally available molecule in rodent studies. Its structure combines tyrosine, isoleucine, and aminohexanoic acid components with a hexanoic acid cap. The compound is commonly referred to by the research code PNB-0408.
Development of dihexa followed from studies on angiotensin IV analogs and their effects on learning and memory. Researchers sought compounds with improved metabolic stability and brain penetration compared with natural peptides. In preclinical reports, dihexa was associated with changes in synaptic connectivity and performance on spatial tasks. These findings generated interest in its potential as a cognitive research tool. The work remains largely preclinical, and independent replication has been limited.
Most published work on dihexa consists of preclinical studies using cell cultures or rodents. Reports have described effects on synaptic connectivity and performance on cognitive tasks in some animal models. These findings are generally presented as preliminary and require independent replication. Study designs, doses, and outcome measures vary across experiments, which complicates direct comparison. No large controlled human trials have established efficacy or safety for any medical use. At present, the evidence base is limited.
Regulatory agencies have not approved dihexa as a prescription drug or supplement. In many countries it falls into a gray area when sold for laboratory research. Buyers may encounter products marketed for research use only, which are not intended for human consumption. Purity and identity can vary between suppliers and batches. Certificates of analysis and independent testing are often recommended for research materials. Documentation helps verify what a vial contains.
Discussion of dihexa in online communities sometimes outpaces the scientific record. Anecdotal reports are difficult to verify and may not distinguish effects from placebo or expectation. The absence of approved human data means long-term risks remain unknown. Researchers continue to investigate related compounds and pathways. Open questions include whether animal findings translate to humans and which biological targets matter most. No consensus exists on these points. Current reviews emphasize the need for rigorous clinical research.
Propofol is the active component of an intravenous anesthetic used for induction and maintenance of general anesthesia. Propofol was first marketed under the brand name Diprivan. Intravenous administration is used to induce unconsciousness, after which anesthesia may be maintained using a combination of medications. Propofol is manufactured as part of a sterile injectable emulsion using soybean oil and lecithin, which gives it a white milky color. Compared to other anesthetics, recovery from propofol-induced anesthesia is generally quick and infrequently associated with such side effects as drowsiness, nausea, vomiting. Propofol may be used before diagnostic procedures requiring anesthesia, in the management of refractory status epilepticus, and for induction or maintenance of anesthesia before and during surgery. It may be administered as a bolus or an infusion, or as a combination of the two. First synthesized in 1973 by John B. Glen, a British veterinary anesthesiologist working for Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI, later AstraZeneca), propofol was introduced for therapeutic use as a lipid emulsion in the United Kingdom and New Zealand in 1986. Propofol (Diprivan) received FDA approval in October 1989. It is on the World Health Organization's List of Essential Medicines.
Sir Joseph John Thomson (18 December 1856 – 30 August 1940) was a British physicist. He received the 1906 Nobel Prize in Physics "in recognition of the great merits of his theoretical and experimental investigations on the conduction of electricity by gases." In 1897, he showed that cathode rays were composed of previously unknown negatively charged particles (now called electrons), which he calculated must have bodies much smaller than atoms and a very large charge-to-mass ratio. The electron was the first subatomic particle to be discovered. Thomson is credited with finding the first evidence for isotopes of a stable (non-radioactive) element in 1912, as part of his exploration into the composition of canal rays (positive ions). His experiments to determine the nature of positively charged particles, with Francis William Aston, were the first use of mass spectrometry and led to the development of the mass spectrograph. Thomson was an influential teacher, and seven of his students went on to win Nobel Prizes: Ernest Rutherford (Chemistry 1908), Lawrence Bragg (Physics 1915), Charles Barkla (Physics 1917), Francis Aston (Chemistry 1922), Charles Thomson Rees Wilson (Physics 1927), Owen Richardson (Physics 1928) and Edward Appleton (Physics 1947). His son, George Paget Thomson, shared the 1937 Nobel Prize in Physics with Clinton Davisson "for their experimental discovery of the diffraction of electrons by crystals".
=== Pharmacokinetics === Thebacon is most commonly taken orally as an elixir, tablet, or capsule, although rectal and subcutaneous administration has the same advantages with hydrocodone as would taking a tablet, powder, or a liquid concentrate buccally or sublingually. Like all of its chemical relatives in this class (codeine-based semi-synthetic narcotic antitussives), thebacon exerts its analgesic effect and a large part of its antitussive and antiperistaltic action as a prodrug for stronger and/or longer-lasting opioids, primarily hydromorphone, which is formed in the liver by the cytochrome P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) enzyme pathway as well as acetylmorphone. As a result, the effectiveness of a given dose of thebacon will vary amongst patients, and some food and drugs can affect various parts of the liberation, absorption, distribution, metabolism and elimination profile, and therefore a variable proportion of the potency of thebacon. Thebacon can be said to be the 6-monoacetylmorphine analog of hydrocodone, and/or the 6-acetylmorphone analog of codeine. It is also a close structural relative of 3,14-diacetyloxymorphone. Thebacon's analgesic and antitussive potency is slightly higher than that of its parent compound hydrocodone, which gives it approximately eight times the milligram strength of codeine.
== Pharmacology == Dimethyl fumarate is metabolized to monomethyl fumarate (MMF) prior to entering systemic distribution. Dimethyl fumarate has been described a prodrug. Dimethyl fumarate is a precursor of monomethyl fumarate. Other prodrugs that metabolize to monomethyl fumarate have been developed to treat relapse-remitting multiple sclerosis, including diroximel fumarate which was approved by the FDA in October 2019. The precise mechanism of action of dimethyl fumarate is not clear. Dimethyl fumarate and monomethyl fumarate can activate the transcription factor (Nuclear factor erythroid-derived 2)-related factor 2 (Nrf2) pathway and monomethyl fumarate has been identified as a nicotinic acid receptor agonist in vitro. In mice that lack Nrf2 expression, however, dimethyl fumarate is still able to modulate the immune system, which indicates that Nrf2 is not required for its immunomodulatory action. For psoriasis, the mechanism of action is believed to be due to the interaction of monomethyl fumarate and the intracellular reduced glutathione of cells directly involved in the pathogenesis of psoriasis. The interaction with glutathione leads to the inhibition of nuclear translocation and the transcriptional activity of the nuclear factor kappa-light-chain-enhancer of activated B-cells (NF-κB). Dimethyl fumarate and monomethyl fumarate have been shown to reduce the expression of micro-RNA-21, which is essential for the production of pathogenic cells in multiple sclerosis and psoriasis.

=== Effect on microorganisms === Exposure to ethylene oxide gas causes alkylation to microorganisms at a nuclear level. The disinfectant effect of ethylene oxide is similar to that of sterilization by heat, but because of limited penetration, it affects only the surface. ETO sterilization can take up to 12 hours due to its slow action upon microorganisms, and lengthy processing and aeration time.
JTT (1992). Published in the same year as BLOSOM, it also performs clustering and uses an implicit model. This may help reduce the systematic error from maximum parismony (MP), but also wastes sequence information. VTML (2001), a PAM-like matrix based on the alignments in the SYSTERS database, iteratively improved using a maximum likelihood estimator starting from the 1970s Dayhoff PAM model. WAG (Wheelan And Goldman, 2001) uses a maximum likelihood estimating procedure instead of any form of MP over a "BRKALN" dataset. The substitution scores are calculated based on the likelihood of a change considering multiple tree topologies derived using neighbor-joining. The scores correspond to a substitution model which includes also amino-acid stationary frequencies and a scaling factor in the similarity scoring. There are two versions of the matrix: WAG matrix based on the assumption of the same amino-acid stationary frequencies across all the compared protein and WAG* matrix with different frequencies for each of included protein families. PMB (Probability Matrix from Blocks, 2003), a set of "true" substitution frequencies estimated from the observed frequencies of BLOSUM, taking into account the possibility of a later substitution masking a previous one. It thus creates a evolutionary model where the distances have theoretical meaning (BLOSUM does not have this feature, unlike PAM, WAG, and most other later matrices, and hence is not recommended for phylogeny by IQ-TREE). LG (2008), which uses a larger dataset (Pfam-based) than WAG.
== Alternative terms == Ultra-high-definition television is also known as Ultra HD, UHD, UHDTV, and 4K. In Japan, 8K UHDTV will be known as Super Hi-Vision since Hi-Vision was the term used in Japan for HDTV. In the consumer electronics market companies had previously only used the term 4K at the 2012 CES but that had changed to "Ultra HD" during CES 2013. "Ultra HD" was selected by the Consumer Electronics Association after extensive consumer research, as the term has also been established with the introduction of "Ultra HD Blu-ray".

== History == From the time of Hippocrates it has been known that bone has considerable potential for regeneration and repair. Nicholas Senn, a surgeon at Rush Medical College in Chicago, described the utility of antiseptic decalcified bone implants in the treatment of osteomyelitis and certain bone deformities. Pierre Lacroix proposed that there might be a hypothetical substance, osteogenin, that might initiate bone growth. The biological basis of bone morphogenesis was shown by Marshall R. Urist. Urist made the key discovery that demineralized, lyophilized segments of bone induced new bone formation when implanted in muscle pouches in rabbits. This discovery was published in 1965 by Urist in Science. Urist proposed the name "Bone Morphogenetic Protein" in the scientific literature in the Journal of Dental Research in 1971. Bone induction is a sequential multistep cascade. The key steps in this cascade are chemotaxis, mitosis, and differentiation. Early studies by Hari Reddi unraveled the sequence of events involved in bone-matrix-induced bone morphogenesis. On the basis of the above work, it seemed likely that morphogens were present in the bone matrix. Using a battery of bioassays for bone formation, a systematic study was undertaken to isolate and purify putative bone morphogenetic proteins. A major stumbling block to purification was the insolubility of demineralized bone matrix. To overcome this hurdle, Hari Reddi and Kuber Sampath used dissociative extractants, such as 4M guanidine HCL, 8M urea, or 1% SDS.
The 1980s MGN W12 F1 engine used rotary valves but never raced. Between 2002 and 2004 the Australian developer Bishop Innovation and Mercedes-Ilmor tested rotary valves for a F1 V10 engine. Bishop Innovations' patent for the rotary valve engine was bought out by BRV Pty Ltd, owned by Tony Wallis, one of the valves original designers. BRV has constructed several functional motors using the rotary valve technology, such as a Honda CRF 450, which had greater torque at both low (17% increase) and high (9% increase) engine speeds, and also produced more brake horsepower up to around 30% more at functional engine speeds. The engine was also considerably smaller and lighter, as the cylinder head assembly was not as large. A company in the UK called Roton Engine Developments made some progress in 2005 with a two-rotor (one for inlet and one for exhaust) single-cylinder Husaberg motorcycle engine. They filed patents and got an example running in 2006, but were backed by MG Rover which subsequently went bust, leaving Roton without enough funds to continue. The designs surfaced some years later in Australia with Engine Developments Australia Pty Ltd. A prototype casting was produced in 2013 on a Kawasaki Ninja 300 parallel twin unit.
=== 11 April === Russia launched a massive air attack on cities and energy infrastructure across Ukraine, killing five people in Mykolaiv and destroying the Trypilska thermal power plant in Ukrainka, Kyiv Oblast. Two storage facilities belonging to the state gas firm Naftogaz were also targeted. President Zelenskyy said that the power plant was destroyed after air defenses ran out of missiles after intercepting seven Russian missiles, resulting in four other missiles hitting the facility. The FSB claimed to have thwarted an attempted landing by Ukrainian special forces in occupied Kherson Oblast, inflicting casualties and capturing a commando. Ukrainian authorities ordered the evacuation of families with children from 47 communities in Kharkiv Oblast near the border with Russia due to Russian attacks. Ukrainian military commanders convinced the Verkhovna Rada to drop a clause from a bill on mobilization of Ukrainian military personnel that allowed soldiers who had fought for 36 months a chance to be discharged. Citing the ongoing Russian offensive, the officers claimed that the clause would "weaken the defence forces". The bill was passed later in the day after over four thousand amendments were submitted since its introduction in February 2024. It must now be signed into law by Zelenskyy.
== Data analysis == Ions are accelerated through the spectrometer in pulses. The electron cloud generated from a single cell is typically 10-150 pulses. The output of a Helios™ run is a binary integrated mass data (IMD) file that contains electron intensities measured from the ions for each mass channel. The continuous pulses must be resolved into individual cell events corresponding to the ion cloud generated from one cell. Each bin of between 10-150 pulses that passes the user set lower convolution threshold, is considered a cell event by the Helios™ software. The lower convolution threshold is the minimal ion count that must be reached across all ion channels to be considered a cell event. The value for this parameter increases with the number of ions being measured and thus more counts are required to define a cell event when more labels are used. For data analysis, the IMD file is converted into the flow cytometry standard (FCS) format. This file contains the total ion counts for each channel for every cell arranged in a matrix and is the same file generated during flow cytometry. Manual gating of this data can be performed as is done for flow cytometry and most of the tools available for flow cytometry analysis have been ported to CyTOF (See flow cytometry bioinformatics). CyTOF data is typically high dimensional. To delineate relationships between cell populations dimensionality reduction algorithms are often used. Several multidimensional analysis clustering algorithms are common. Popular tools include tSNE, FlowSOM, and the diffusion pseudo time (DPT).
